SciCore Academy is offering five academic camps for high school students during summer 2012. Each course begins with a pre-test to determine the class center level.
Hours: 9 am – 3 pm , Monday – Friday.
Fee: $295 per weeklong camp.

Algebra 2 with Trigonometry. July 16 – 20. This class is an in-depth treatment of selected key concepts, as well as “hands-on” applications and projects. Topics include systems of equations, polynomials, circular functions and trigonometric identities, graphing functions, radians vs. degrees, polar coordinates, solving trigonometric equations, logarithms, and matrices. Application areas include mechanics, motion, optics, navigation, and chemistry. The morning is for problem solving and the afternoon is devoted to practical applications and experimentation.
Prerequisite: high school level Algebra 1.

Calculus. July 23-27. A one-week course in Single Variable differential and integral calculus, focusing on fundamental theorems, key techniques, and applications. This course can serve as an overview of high school calculus topics; it can also be used as a refresher for students entering college or planning to take AP calculus.
Prerequisite: Pre-calculus or Algebra 2 with trig.

Writing for the SAT, ACT and Beyond. July 30 – August 3. Excellence in writing leads to higher SAT scores, improved student confidence, and elevated grades in many subjects. Morning sessions include review of grammar and basic writing skills while afternoons focus on essays of the type seen on the SAT and ACT. The small class size (limited to 12 students) enables the instructor to provide much individual attention.

Chemistry August 6 – 10. College-level chemistry taught by a pro! This class will help you prepare for the SAT II exam or your upcoming chemistry course. Morning problem sessions and two afternoon labs focus on topics such as atomic theory, stoichiometry, gas behavior, equilibrium calculations, thermodynamics, kinetics and bonding theory.

Physics August 13 – 17. High School- level physics with emphasis on mechanics, waves and thermodynamics. This one-week course obviously cannot cover an entire year of physics, but it selects key topics which are often problematic for students. Can serve as an introduction for your upcoming high school course or as a refresher for the SAT II or to be sure you are prepared for it.

SciCore Academy is offering six “hands-on” middle school camps during the summer of 2012. Enjoy the results of our many years experience delivering quality science, math and English camps. Now head for the lab!
Hours: 9 am – 3 pm , Mon. – Fri.
Fee: $295 per week; $245 for Jul 2-6.

Robotics June 25 – 29. Learn to assemble, program and modify programmable robots for movement, sensing, and communication with the outside world. Each student will work independently at a robotics workstation and dedicated personal computer.

Chemistry Lab for Middle School July 2, 3, 5, 6. Explore the world of chemistry through individual, “hands-on” experiments. Safe yet exciting “test tube” chemistry experiments and demonstrations will teach students basic principles and inspire them to view the world in a new
way. Topics include: acids, bases and pH; energy; combustion; chromatography; oxidation/reduction; crystals; precipitations; exploring gases; formulas, and equations. (New experiments for 2012!)

Video Games Creation July 23 – 27. Everyone has played video games, but this summer camp will let you create your own! For those with a creative mind and an urge to create their own “story line” the video game camp will teach you some fundamentals and let you experiment as a developer. Prior programming experience not required, but a love of computer action is.

Electronics July 9 – 13.  The fascinating world of electronics will be introduced through hands-on experiments using electronic breadboards. Students will learn fundamental principles of electronics and build and test circuits at their own workbench. Topics: resistance, capacitance, current, voltage, electrolytic cells, ohms law, switches, soldering, multi-meter, and transistors.

Middle School Math July 30 – August 3. The course includes those fundamentals needed to gain a better “number sense” and to be able to tackle word problems and applications. Within a challenging yet fun environment, students will be taught or given a review of topics such as: order of operations, prime factorization, fractions-decimals-percents, ratios, unit multipliers, roots, mental math, estimation, scientific notation, introductory geometry, analyzing word problems and more!

SciCore Academy is offering five Elementary academic camps during the summer of 2012. They are designed to improve your student’s writing, reading, math and science skills through practical exercises, focused assignments, and much individual attention. Four hours of academics, one and a half hours of art, music or games.
Hours: 9 am – 3 pm, Monday – Friday.
Fees: $ 295 per weeklong camp; $245 for July 2-6,; $785 for 3-week Early Readers camp.

Math & English, Grades 1 & 2, July 2, 3, 5, 6. Your child will gain a genuine sense of accomplishment at this SciCore English/math camp. Mornings are devoted to math fundamentals, such as fact families, carry-over, borrowing, multiplication, factors, and mental math. In the afternoon your child will learn to write good sentences, learn the parts of speech, build vocabulary, and read with expression and exact comprehension. ($ 245.00)

Math & English, Grades 3 & 4, July 9 – 13. Boost your child’s Math and English skills in this split session program. Mornings are devoted to math topics such as multi-digit multiplication, long division, fractions, decimals, mental math, percents, word problems, and more. English is the focus in the afternoon, boosting students’ writing, grammar, vocabulary, and ability to interpret good literature. See how much your child can accomplish in one week!

Early Readers, Ages 4-5, July 23 – Aug. 10. You won’t believe that your child can learn to read in three short weeks. Our proven techniques and caring approach were a genuine hit during the past three years. Give your child an outstanding gift this summer — the ability to read. ($785.00)

Science for Grades 3 & 4, July 30 – Aug. 3. Make a difference in your student’s education with this “hands-on” science camp filled with fun and educational experiments guided by a professional scientist. Experiments are drawn from biology, chemistry, earth science and elementary physics. Students actually do their own experiments!
